Look what I found in the archives! (AKA my hall closet). When Brad and I worked in corporate accounting he got pink eye. He was out of the office for quite some time and since we had pink posters left over from Valentine's signing I decided to cover his cubicle walls in pink. (Seriously he was out of the office for a while and couldn't shake the stupid pink eye.) So, I wrote the poem told from the perspective of someone with pink eye. Brad, being the main character ;)

Poor Mister Pink Eye
(c) 2010
Some people are pale white
And plain to the eye
Some people stay blue
And do nothing but cry
Some people turn green
From a sight or a smell
Some people turn red
Who they've kissed they won't tell
I like all these colors
But I must confess
That pink is the color
I love the best
It caught my attention
It stuck in my eye
Now I cannot lose pink
Though I try and I try
It spreads its love here
And it spreads its love there
Pink is the color
No one wants to share

Look Out Kettle
(c) 2020
to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot"

I'm a tiny teapot
Made by hand
Shaped into a form
And kind of bland
Throw into an oven
Smoothed by sand
Now I'm useful ain't that grand!

Next this little teapot
Will not whine
As I'm brushed
With my design
Now I look so pretty
And I shine
"Look out, Kettle, I'm oh so fine!"

Excuses...

First of all, for those of you who don't know Peter Lopez, he is friend and fellow author.
He has an amazing book called, "Excuses, Excuses, Which One is Yours?" I highly recommend adding it to your read list today.
He's great at marketing, consistent branding, and all there is to know about publishing books. Mainly, all the things I wish I was better at but don't take the time to focus on because...oh wait, here comes an excuse.
When I first read "Excuses, Excuses: Which One is Yours?" it was in Florida during a life group at a church we attended with Peter and his wife, Sorines. People had excuses in all shapes and sizes and they joined the life group to go through the book and apply ways to overcome those excuses that were holding them back from reaching their goals.

My excuse I wrote down for that class sadly remains the same, "There are areas that I am afraid to step out in faith, the biggest of those being writing, not because I think that I'll fall but because I believe that God will do something so incredibly amazing. That is my 'super lame excuse'.
You might read that and think, "That's a weird excuse." I got tears in my eyes just writing it again because it is that real and that terrifying to me. The ironic thing is that after I shared that excuse I was pushed into working with other authors through ghostwriting and developmental editing. I loved it. The authors enjoyed working with me, everything was going well until my self-doubt got the best of me and I shied away from writing once again.
Here I am today, back into helping other authors achieve their dreams. Things are going well and that self-doubt is once again clawing at the back of my mind. So what's going to keep me from retreating to my corner and shying away? God!
God didn't create me to shy away, He created me with a boldness to create and inspire others. My boldness and creativity often make me feel like the oddball out so I tend to back down. But...with this challenge today to write about excuses (thank you, Peter) it has ignited a new flame.
In the words of Johnny Cash, "No, I won't back down!"

God, you want to do something super incredibly awesome with my life? You want to write a story upon me that has others saying, "What in the world? How in the world?"?

Go for it! No more excuses!

My prayer today is that whomever takes the time to read this blog would take a moment to evaluate the excuses in their own life. Not just the simple excuses but the deep 'going to take some time to sort through' excuses. The ones that are hindering them from embracing all that you created them to be.

You read about my excuses, now it's time to be real, what's yours?

Sasha the Service Dog

Meet Sasha. She is a Golden Retriever. Like most Golden Retrievers Sasha loves to play.
It's fun to play catch, roll around, and chase her best friend, Radar.
But Sasha can't have fun all the time because she is a working dog.

There are many different types of working dogs. Some working dogs where uniforms when they are out in public. Some uniforms tells people that they are on the job and don't have time to play. Other uniforms tell people it is their job to play. Make sure that you never approach a working dog while they are duty. It may distract them from their job and distracted employees never get a 'job well done' treat at the end of the day.

There are dogs that track. These working dogs help find people when disaster strikes. Rescue Dogs work with firefighters and other emergency workers to sniff out people in need. Whether they are buried in snow from an avalanche or rumble from a collapsed building, these dogs use their excellent scent of smell to rescue people.

There are dogs that protect. These working dogs are on the Canine Unit at police departments. They are trained to assist their human partner and keep people safe. They learn how to sniff out bad things that could harm people. They also learn how to chase down and hang on to a bad guy until their human partner can properly secure them. These dogs help protect their community and keep it safe.

There are dogs that herd. These working dogs live on farms with livestock like cows or sheep. They work hard to keep the farmer's herd together. They round up the animals to make sure no one wanders off or gets lost. They also protect the herd from threats like wolves or coyotes. These working dogs watch over other animals.

There are dogs that comfort. These working dogs are called Therapy Dogs. These working dogs are trained to provide comfort and support to people who are in hospitals, retirement homes, and school. They also help individuals who have gone through emotional trauma. These working dogs loved to be hugged.

Then there are dogs like Sasha. She is a Service Dog. Service dogs are trained to aid or assist people with disabilities. They keep their human safe by guiding them through stores and neighborhoods, gathering items they cannot reach, or fetching equipment they may need. Fetching is Sasha's favorite part of being a Service Dog. These working dogs love to assist.

Dogs have many different jobs in the world. They work very hard at their jobs so at the end of the day they can play. Because every dogs favorite job is to be their human's best friend.
